New year’s trend? Sports: the J League has no final conclusion in the negotiation. South Korea is expected to implement it in the FA Cup.
Live broadcast on August 16, according to Wang Xiaorui, a reporter from Sports Weekly, on August 15, the first round of the qualifying tournament of the Asian Champions League, which was completely changed to the new year system, started. At the same time, domestic competitions in some Asian countries will also be changed to the new year’s “Autumn Spring System”.
At present, among the 47 member associations of the Asian Football Association, about 40 leagues are launched in the “autumn spring system”, that is, the new year competition system. Only China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, uzbekistan still continues the “Spring and Autumn system”. As early as two years ago, the restructuring of the Asian Champions League has been put on the agenda, but due to many factors, except that the Thai League has changed from “Spring and Autumn system” to “autumn spring system”, which belongs to East Asia, many football leagues in Southeast Asia still adhere to the old tradition of playing at the beginning of the year and ending at the end of the year. Even if the J Alliance has discussed many times when to adopt the new year competition system, until now, there is no clear conclusion.
However, on April this year, the J League and the Japanese Football Association were still negotiating with many clubs for this purpose. In particular, the chairman of the Japanese Football Association, kyoshida, is a firm “New Year faction”. In addition, Nomura fanghe, chairman of the J League, also said, “If we only operate the J League by ourselves, the competition system can be changed without any change. But if you want to build a world-class league and a world-class famous club, you must change the competition calendar.”
Recently, the Korean Football Association is also discussing the feasibility of changing the competition system of the Korean Football Association Cup. For example, for the South Korean Football Association Cup next season, the first and second rounds of qualifier matches attended by the amateur and semi-professional teams can be held in the autumn of 2024, the competition after the professional club joined (counting from the third round or the 1/8 final) starts from the spring of the following year. In this way, only in terms of domestic competitions, professional clubs can focus the competition tasks in the first and second half of the year on the FA Cup and the K League respectively. This method also helps those big clubs to better adapt to the New Year’s thinking of the Asian Football League.
However, this move does not mean that the Korean football community intends to use the FA Cup as a breakthrough for restructuring. In fact, since several years ago, the K League has had extensive discussions on whether K1 and K2 league matches will be converted into “Autumn Spring”, and the results have not made much progress. The biggest difficulty that is widely recognized is that the clubs hold the Winter competition, and they may have to pay an extra fee. In addition to installing new hardware facilities, it also includes maintenance and repair costs, which is undoubtedly worse for most K League clubs with general operating conditions.
